Mousigator is an extension that brings the windows of an application to the front by simply moving the mouse on top of the window; you don’t have to click. It’s an alternative way to browse through your windows; one you might like. To use it, move Mousigator onto the System Folder, the system will ask you to place it into the Extensions folder, say yes; then restart for it to take affect. It will only work under System 7.x, so if you don’t have that…
New, in This Version of 0.3.1
• Works with TitlePop 3.0! Thanks go out to its author, Jouko Pakkanen, for helping to solve the incompatibility. Get more info about this cool extension at <http://www.datavasara.fi/titlepop>
• Fixed a situation where if you browsed into the window of another app, and it didn't get selected, Mousigator would continue to try to select it.
• Fixed a serious error where Mousigator would crash the computer, hard, in certain situations. Specifically, if you had at least 4 windows on the screen, then:
1) If you're in the Finder, make sure the desktop isn't active by clicking in a window.
2) Click in another window to make it the front, and then click back in the previous window; this is to make sure you now which window will be made active when you close the front window.
3) The remaining steps should be completed rather quickly to prevent Mousigator from selecting a window.
4) Browse into a window that isn't either of the two you've been clicking in.
5) Now close the front window by pressing command-W; the window you clicked in step 2 should become the front window.
6) Browse into another window, not the front window.
7) If you completed the above steps correctly, and you still have Mousigator 0.3 installed, then your computer will have crashed. Be forewarned, this is a serious crash and you will be forced to reboot, so don't try this unless you have saved everything.
Ramble
Hey, you know that incompatiblity between Mousigator and Kaleidoscope that I said I would work around: In the Finder, if Mousigator selected a window sometimes Kaleidoscope wouldn't correctly draw the disk info part. Well, I lied, I didn't find a work around; I solved it! Don't ask me how or why, but for some reason the two get along now. (I guess practically rewritting Mousigator may have played a part in it…oh well.)
Sounding a bit like Apple when they recommend OS updates, “Tim Humphrey recommends this update to all existing users of Mousigator. This new version brings about significant performance enhancements and improved product quality.” In short, dump 0.1 and install this one. Seriously, 0.3.1 is a heckuva lot better than 0.1. Besides the improvements listed above there are a couple of goodies!
One I'll tell you about because you'll probably really appreciate it. If you have caps lock down, then Mousigator won't browse into windows of other apps.
As for the other one, I'll reveal that one in the next version; maybe.
If it appears that Mousigator isn't working, because it isn't browsing windows, then this may be why. Internally, some windows appear to be dialogs when in reality they aren't, because of this Mousigator won't browse out of the front window. So Mousigator is still working, even though you may think it's not.
Version History, (for those who like to know)
Version 0.3:
• You can select windows in other open apps, woo hoo!
• Mousigator handles floating windows correctly
• Mousigator won't browse into a window if the mouse is in an obscured portion of the window—perhaps because the Control Strip is in the way
• If Mousigator tries to select a window, but for some reason it doesn't get selected, Mousigator will stop browsing windows entirely until another window is made the front
• Slight change in the identification of dialogs
• Fixed a potential bug with Mousigator and OS versions prior to 7.5.5
• Increased Mousigator's memory requirements from 16K to 40K
• Renamed the extension from “Mousigator.d” to just “Mousigator”
Note(s)
In the beginning, version 0.1, I said Mousigator would only be available from my web page; and it was only available from my web page.
I also asked for it to not be uploaded anywhere else; and hopefully it wasn't.
But then my web page went down; and I was saddened:(
So being the nice guy that I am, I'm going to upload it elsewhere for more people to enjoy; and so it is uploaded.
The web address listed below is the former web page for Mousigator, and will most likely not work; and so it doesn't work anymore.
When I do get my web identity worked out I'll list the new address in future versions; and so he has spoken.
–––––Dashed Line–––––
Mousigator is freeware until version 1.0, at which point it will become shareware.
Please do send any comments and suggestions you may have about Mousigator and/or this ReadMe to the email address listed below.
